This is my corresponding animation project for my Senior Thesis research, "Animation and Emotion".

For my senior year before earning my BFA, the topic of my thesis is about the role our feelings and emotions play into the creation of animations, as well as how animations affect the way we feel as viewers. The goal of my study is to learn and understand the depth of animations and stories, and to deepen my understanding on how style affects emotion and vice versa; how feelings affect the style the animator approaches.

With music from my good friend's band, Unit One, the animation targets the emotion of sadness and depression.

What informed Axis was reflection of my own personal experiences and memories of dealing with severe depression and anxiety; feeling I had held in the past in regards to poor self-esteem and feelings of self worthlessness. The animation is about a girl dealing with these emotions of depression, and ends with a feeling of relief as she realizes her family is there to help her through her struggles.
