Reading 1: 1 Pt 5:5b-14
Beloved: And infuse all humility among one another, for God resists the arrogant, but to the humble he gives grace.

And so, be humbled under the powerful hand of God, so that he may exalt you in the time of visitation. Cast all your cares upon him, for he takes care of you.

Be sober and vigilant. For your adversary, the devil, is like a roaring lion, traveling around and seeking those whom he might devour. Resist him by being strong in faith, being aware that the same passions afflict those who are your brothers in the world. But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself perfect, confirm, and establish us, after a brief time of suffering. To him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

I have written briefly, through Sylvanus, whom I consider to be a faithful brother to you, begging and testifying that this is the true grace of God, in which you have been established. The Church which is in Babylon, elect together with you, greets you, as does my son, Mark. Greet one another with a holy kiss. Grace be to all of you who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.


Responsorial Psalm: Ps 89:2-3, 6-7, 16-17
R. (2) For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

The mercies of the Lord I will sing forever. I will proclaim your truth with my mouth to generation and generation. For you have said: Mercy shall be built up forever in the heavens; your truth shall be established in them.
R. Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

The heavens shall declare your wonders, O Lord, and your truth in the assembly of the saints. For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the sons of God is like the Lord?

Blessed is the people who know jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of your countenance. And in your name they shall rejoice all the day, and in your justice they shall be exalted.

We proclaim Christ crucified; he is the

Gospel: Mark 16:15-20
Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them: “Go forth to the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved. But whoever does not believe will be condemned. Now these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name, they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

And after the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. Then they went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that accompanied it.
