This is a Motormouth couple car review of the new 2023 Hyundai palisade mid-size 3-row SUV. The Palisade gets a refresh for 2023 to its exterior, interior, new infotainment, safety features and advanced driver assistance systems. The Palisade has a stately looking exterior design and for 2023 it gets a new front and rear bumper fascia and a new bolder and wider grille. The new vertically connected LED composite lights frame the grille creating a sharp-edged look and the extended hood profile and new 20” multi-spoke alloy wheels give the Palisade a strong road presence. The elegant and sophisticated interior design of the Palisade is still present with standard 8-passenger seating for your family adventures. There is the addition of a new instrument panel, gauge cluster and audio interface design. The Palisade gets a new 12” touchscreen with navigation, enhanced USB-C ports which replace USB-A ports for quicker charging and enhanced wireless device charging upgraded from 5 watts to 15 watts to charge your phone faster. Hyundai is offering new seating surfaces and materials including, cloth, leatherette and Nappa leather plus an ergo-motion driver’s seat to help improve comfort and reduce fatigue for those long trips. New, slim horizontal air vents add a sense of spaciousness and the instrument panel has been redesigned with new ambient lighting themes. The Palisade has available second row captain’s chairs and the second row of seats offers wing-out headrests and seat ventilation for extra comfort. The one touch second row seat allows for easy operation to move the seat forward and out of the way for easy access into and out of the third row. The third row offers power folding, unfolding and reclining seats. The top Calligraphy model has the addition of acoustic-laminated rear door glass. There is a new Urban trim for 2023 similar to the Santa Fe and Tucson Urban models that are already in the Hyundai SUV line-up. The Palisade Urban will include a more rugged look with dark accents and a dark front grille finish, black roof rails, rugged themed 20” alloy wheels and a power sunroof. There is no change to the powertrain; the Palisade has the same 3.8L V6 engine with an 8 speed automatic transmission, 291 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It has Hyundai’s HTRAC AWD system which adds a new tow mode for 2023. Tow mode adjusts the towing powertrain profile, holding lower gears longer and reducing the frequency of shifting response. This AWD system was developed as a multi-mode system providing an electronic variable torque split clutch with active torque control between the front and rear axles. The driver selectable HTRAC Normal, Sport and Smart drive modes give drivers the confidence to tackle those harsher winter conditions. Hyundai has expanded its safety technologies on the 2023 Palisade with rear side impact airbags as standard equipment and offers a suite of advanced driver assistance systems. New technology includes, remote smart parking assist, enhanced forward collision avoidance, highway driving assist, navigation based smart cruise control and reverse parking collision avoidance assist. The Palisade offers an Ultrasonic rear occupant alert system which monitors the rear seats to detect the movements of children and pets reminding drivers to check the rear seats when exiting the vehicle. If the system detects movement in the rear seats after the driver leaves and locks the vehicle, it can sound the horn and send an alert to the driver’s smartphone via Bluelink.
