This was mentioned in my comments and I have seen Dire Thunder builds so I decided to try it on my 5th Maddening run and it performs very consistently. There are some downsides like low overall SP generation due to being stuck on a bond ring, and the lack of emblem abilities.

This is with no DLC/base game no XP/SP farms or exploits outside of the creation of the Dire Thunder Ring.
