The Bowl That Didn't Want To Be A Bowl



Hello again, This week I show you how I made a bowl that didnt want to be a bowl lol. I made this bowl from a tree I cut down a year or more ago, I put it in a home made kiln and it sat there for 6+ months lol. So it did end up cracking a little, but I thought i'd just fill them up and have a nice bowl with some character lol.


Well I did end up making the bowl work out in the end, But it fought me every step of the way. It was originally going to be a live edge bowl, but the bark was a little too loose so I decided to scrap that idea. I filled the visible cracks with CA glue, While turning the bowl blank I discovered the cracks went a lot deeper that I realized. Which led to half of the bowl flying off while I was turning it. The bowl also ended up being a lot shallower than I anticipated from trying to work out the rough edges. Which led to the worm hole showing through the bowl, In other words I ended up making a funnel lol. So I drilled out the hole larger and filled it with an oak dowel rod. It was the same type of wood, but it was far from matching lol.


But in the end the Bowl came out looking really nice, all the hard work I put into it payed off. All those imperfections just gave the bowl more character in my opinion. And the finish ended was slick and glossy, It took quite a few layers of shine juice but it all came out well in the end.
