Sergey Golyaev was one of the strongest lightweights in Russian mixed martial arts during their formation and heyday. His flamboyant style of fighting and his trademark appearance in a cap with earflaps brought fame to Sergey far beyond the borders of our country. He started his career back in 2001 and had 34 professional fights. The most significant victory in his career and, unfortunately, little known in our country, was his fight in Japan against the legendary Takanori Gomi. And then Sergey simply surprised everyone, having managed to win a fight over a clear favorite by a separate decision of the judges.
Despite the fact that Golyaev was a two-time Russian champion in Thai boxing and had excellent striking technique, he won the vast majority of his victories with the help of painful and suffocating techniques. But if the opponent showed inattention in the stance, he could instantly go to the floor of the ring.
Today we will watch Sergei's fight at the S-70 League tournament, which took place in 2011. At that tournament, a match meeting between the national teams of Russia and Spain was held.
