It’s that time of year again. Firewood Season.
The one thing that often gets overlooked is chainsaw maintenance.
Let me show you how I change the engine oil on my saw.
The drain plug is located on the side of the saw and is easily removed without any tools.
Next, I grab a small pan to drain the engine oil into.
I like to run the saw and get the oil good and hot before I change it.
This makes it thinner, so it all drains out.
I grab a funnel and dump in the new oil.
This saw doesn’t have a dipstick- I just pour it in till it’s full.
Now it’s ready to get back to work.
So, when’s the last time you changed the oil on your two-stroke?
Just kidding- 2 strokes don’t use engine oil.
This is bar and chain oil.
When the saw is running it pumps a small amount of bar oil onto the chain to keep it lubricated.
It’s sticky so it doesn't fling off the chain when it’s running.
Let me know in the comments if you burn wood to heat your home. @hausplans
