We review the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla on track, skid pad and briefly road to see whether this five-door 4WD sports car is the new king hot hatch.

The Toyota GR Corolla builds on the GR Yaris foundations with a longer wheelbase, more doors and more power, and the recipe makes it a little better to drive thanks to greater stability and feel from the chassis, in our view.

In Australia, 700 examples of a $62,300 GTS model will likely be snapped up quickly while the 25-unit special edition $77,800 Morizo may even end up being collector’s items.

The GR Corolla competes with the Volkswagen Golf R, Hyundai i30 N, Honda Civic Type R and other hot hatches.
