http://crosstrainingenduro.com Is the Gopro Hyperview setting on Gopro 10 and 11 cameras a game changer for motorbike riders? Years ago, Gopro introduced 'Superview' in the Gopro 3 camera. It was brilliant for motorbike riders. Welcome to Cross Training Adventure, we are into all things dual sport and adventure on the east coast of Australia. Technically it is a 4:3 video that is stretched to 16:9. In practical terms, it means you see more of the top and bottom of the image. This is great for motorbike videos for several reasons. Drawbacks? Ideally you need to keep other motorbikes roughly in the centre of the screen. There is so much bending at the far left and right that things get distorted. You see more of the handlebars for a more immersive experience. Getting the correct camera angle is not so critical. And finally, it contributes to a smoother visual experience. The main negative? The edges of the video image are highly compressed so objects like trees appear to be bent at the edges of the screen. This is barely noticeable for action shots. Keen on adventure riding in Australia? Check out our vids. 'Hyperview' is like the old Superview on steroids. Technically the larger sensor is fully used to film at an 8:7 aspect. It is then digitally manipulated to 16:9. In practical terms, it means an even taller image. You can capture not only the handlebars, but more of the motorbike in each shot. It feels even more immersive. Extra advantages? Action cams are notoriously bad for making the speed look slower than it actually was. But the extra wide angle of Hyperview seems to correct this. If you like dual sport riding in Australia then you might like our adventure riding vids. Check out our reviews of various adventure bikes and dual sport bikes. My personal view is it actually looks close to the real experience. But for still shots you should select another camera angle. Gopro took this a step further with the Gopro 11 and 12 cameras. Manufacturers make some really bad mistakes. and there is a lot of dodgy crap being sold out there. Instead of glowing dual sport reviews for kickbacks or free product, we will try to keep the buggers honest. So subscribe. Or don't subscribe to our Cross Training Adventure riding channel. The main thing is get out and ride while you can with dual sport riding or Adventure riding in Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Romania and beyond! So check out Cross Training Adventure. Also, if you use the Dango chin bar mount which is removeable, you can hold it high in the air while riding and get more of a drone-like feel to your footage. Also Hyperview is only available in certain resolutions and frame-rates because it needs to use the entire sensor. If you always use higher resolutions, there is no problem. But I have always just filmed at 1080p and 30 frames per second because my laptop can edit this easily. Also batteries last a lot longer. And finally I don't need a lot of storage for old footage. But I love the Hyperview setting so I will probably need to replace my old laptop when it bursts into flames trying to process these bigger files. Gopro cameras have certainly had their issues over the years. And at various points I think their competition were actually creating better cameras. But for motorbike riders, I think Hyperview is just one of several features that clearly puts Gopro at the top of the heap again in recent years. Have you used it? What do you think? Have you found a similar setting on other brands of camera? Let us know in the comments. Everyone is trying to sell you stuff you don't need, convince you to buy the latest model with anodized coffee cup holders for your trips to the coffee shop. Of course if you are cashed up and into bling, go for it. All we are saying is there's also the budget option for adventure riding. And it won't hold you back. Why? We reckon it's 80% the rider and 20% the bike. So the Cross Training Adventure focus is just get out there and have fun on two wheels. Instead of obsessing over the latest blinged out Beemer, which tyres to fit or spending a fortune on your suspension or billet alloy gas cap. So most of our adventure riding vids will feature the much loved bush pig, the Suzuki DR650. And we've done a 10 part series on how to unleash the mighty beast that lurks within. What else? Cross Training Adventure actively avoids sponsorship. We like doing seriously critical reviews.
