In this video, Bob Paulinski, Master of Wine will the top wine values at Trader Joe’s. Six wines will are included priced between $10 and $20. Discussion on the wine regions, grape varieties, the specific wines, along with a tasting of each is included.

At the time this video was made TJs had nearly 600 stores across 44 states. If you’re a shopper at TJs, you know that across the store much of what they sell is under their company labels. The same holds true for wine. The assortment range is not huge at just over 400 individuals wines per store, but its thoughtfully curated with a good number of seasonal wines, so there’s always something new to try.

No gimmicks, no wine sales, no case discounts, no coupons, no BOGO buy one get one free, none of that, just sharp shelf prices everyday. Clean and simple. Unlike most of the world, in the US, sales tax is added at the cash register, it’s included in the shelf price.

2022 Vignobles LeCheteau Pouilly Fume Loire Valley, France $15.99
Pale color green tinge, common with SB, cool temp fermentation, to preserve the primary fruit, citrus zest, green apple, bright and lifted character. Fresh styled wine, no oak, bit of lees aging. If you find NZ SB a little too overt, this is a good option. It’s a fine line difference, both made entirely from Sauv Blanc, meant to consumed within a few years of the vintage.

2022 Upper Eden Pinot Noir at from Santa Lucia Highlands, CA $12.99
Pale red, youthful, strawberry, cranberry, orange rind, good intensity, medium body, super smooth, soft, really inviting, not complex, wonderful purity, cool climate, region of mostly PN and Chard.
2022 Trader Joes Reserve Rasteau, Southern Rhone Valley, France, this is a recent arrival that will be available seasonally. Grenache based, lesser Syrah and Mourvedre. 2010 upgraded to its own AOC. This one is new to TJs. 20 min drive to Chateauneuf du Pape, near Sablet. Rasteau, sometimes a bit rustic, bigger, robust reds, vintage of extreme weather conditions.

2021 Trader Joe’sJ Grand Reserve Shiraz Lot #109 Barossa Valley, Australia $12.99
Located not too far from Adelaide, short list of the best wine regions from Australia. Shiraz is what the Australians drink more than anything else, but in many export markets it doesn’t get the attention it deserves. In terms of value its one of the best places to search out. Deep, well extracted, full, robust, nice integration of oak, soft tannins.

2021 TJS Platinum Reserve Red Blend Lot #110 from the Cachapoal Valley, Chile $14.99.
73% CS, 11% Syrah, 9% Carmenere, 4%Petit Verdot, 3% CF, all varieties that bring a good deal of color. Deep, dense, slight herbal note, cassis, well oaked, concentrated with solid tannin structure. Can age well for a few years.

2022 Outlot CS Oak Knoll, Napa Valley California $19.99
AVA that sits just north of the town of Napa. Merlot, Chard and Cabernet mostly planted there, bit cooler than more northern regions that are more inland. Good color density, cassis, black fruit, blueberry, expresso, moderate oak level, very soft, accessible style.
