Ok, first I want you to be clear on what a grant actually is:

A grant is simply money that is awarded to businesses that the business does not have to pay back.

Wich makes business grants very different than a business loan. Grants also differ from loans based on how they are awarded. Loans are often based on your ability to repay the loan back - and use your credit and revenue to determine eligibility. Grants on the other hand are often awarded to those who can use the grant money most effectively.

Now, there are two main types of grants:

You have government grants that are provided by your federal and state governments.

And you have private grants that are provided by corporations and foundations.

Now that we understand grants, let’s look at the top places to find a grant

Once you submit your application, I would recommend doing 3 things.

#1 - Send a thank you note/email - make sure you reach out to the organization thanking them for the opportunity for

#2 - After about 2 weeks, send a follow-up email asking if your application has been reviewed

#3 - In another 2 weeks, try to call the grant office for a status update (if you can)

The goal is to remain top of mind for the grantors without crossing the line and being overly pushy.
By doing so, you can significantly increase the chance that your application is seen and reviewed. It may even speed up the process for you.
