In this 15-minute presentation, Dr. Oriol Roca gives some answers to these questions with the findings of the HILOOP study. This trial compared closed-loop oxygen control with manual oxygen adjustments during high-flow oxygen therapy in critically ill patients with moderate-to-severe acute hypoxemic respiratory failure.

In critically ill patients, delivery oxygen should be carefully titrated to avoid both insufficient and excessive oxygen levels. It is necessary to monitor FiO2 closely and adjust it frequently to keep oxygenation within a specific target range. But the time and staff needed to do this make it often impractical.

So can a "bedside assistant" help the patient spend more time within the desired range? Can it help avoid exposure to high oxygen levels? What impact could this have on staff's workload? Watch the video to find out!
