Recently having been taken to task for admitting that I have, for years, cleaned Diamond Discs with a small amount of water and a damp cloth, and being further told that my results of non-damaged discs must be a "fluke" or just "good luck" on my part, I decided that it was time for an experiment.

I knew that it wouldn't be enough to simply film a video of a disc being cleaned in the way that I normally would, I would have to do the completely unthinkable: submerge an already de-laminated, abused Diamond Disc record in an ultrasonic cleaner and see what happens.

This was in the cleaner, submerged in water and soap, for 8 minutes. The ultrasonic cleaner probably got water into ALL the nooks and crannies. My job was to rinse it off after and then dry the disc relatively quickly.

The record certainly came out clean but now time will tell what that short immersion in water will do. I will update this video series as time goes on. Again, this is an experiment. I do not condone cleaning these records in this manner though I definitely condone a light cleaning with a damp cloth. In all my years my records are still beautifully playable with no bubbling or delamination. But you can't just tell folks that, you gotta show them. And even then... ;-)
