Meet Dr Husam Abuolwan, who works as an emergency technical officer for the WHO office in occupied Palestinian territory (oPt). "My duty is to support the trauma activities in all Palestine, focusing on Gaza," Dr Abuolwan says. "We are working to support communities and people in need, and we are working on the field to support the hospitals."

Dr Husam, a Palestinian originally from Rafah City, shares the day-to-day challenges of supporting the emergency health response in Gaza while worrying about colleagues and his family. "I am very, very worried about my colleagues. We are under threat, all the time during the work," he says. "We are worried about our families, I am very concerned about all my beloved ones- we are all under risk."

He stresses the importance of helping each other during difficult times. "WHO is trying to cover as much as we can collaboration with partners. But we need support, and we need to support each other. I am proud to be WHO staff. I am very proud to be a member that support the people who need these critical and essential services to save lives."

The World Health Organization’s ‘Who's WHO’ video series tells the story of the WHO workforce and the work they do to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable. For WHO’s 75th anniversary, we are celebrating the diversity and commitment of many exceptional individuals that work tirelessly, behind-the-scenes to support and enable others.
