Will Byers returned back from the Upside Down, but the visions were a living hell for him. He couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat or study normally.
But the boy tried to move on. Though, after the Starcourt Battle Vecna took another step in convincing Will that he was the one to blame for everything and that he was the cause of his loved ones' problems. So he soon run to Denver, informing his mother and Jonathan, but warning them not to tell anyone else where he would be.
That's how Will Byers became Finney Blake.
But in the new place it did not get any easier, although there was no paranormal stuff. It turned out that some people could be as horrible as Vecna.
A change in the plot of ’The Black Phone’: all the boys were in the basement together, Finney was the last. But instead of killing the boys, The Grabber only traumatized them and left them in the basement where in the original he buried the corpses. There was a phone there, too, and that's how the calls were made. Finney thought the others were dead and was very surprised and happy when he saw the police and doctors taking them out of the house.
