This is the HWS construction site in Sarnen.
We are building a flood relief gallery here, 6.5 km long.

We are just about to break through - the last metre is still standing, and we want to drill through it today.

Then we'll be done with the whole thing.

I'm the construction site manager here and I'm responsible for the tunnelling and the whole site.

It was tough, first the rock was extremely hard, then we had a lot of incoming water,
up to 400 litres/second here in the machine area.
And when we got the water and the hard rock behind us, the rock became very bad, very soft.
That was again very hard work for the guys, they had to put in over 1500 steel arches.

That's the equivalent of about 800 tonnes of steel. Only by hand.

We have done it now, this is a special day, today is the breakthrough of the tunnel. Reason to celebrate! Well, we're doing it already.

Marti is number one in Switzerland. Work, people, everything tiptop! Perfect. I love it! Brother! Hey, brother!

The feeling now is just pride and joy.

There is one metre left!

Tunnel construction is like a journey to the moon. No one has ever been there before, you're always the first one!

This flood relief gallery is a project of the century for the canton of Obwalden.
With Marti, we have a partner who has worked in a very high-quality and consistent manner and has never let the great challenges get them down.
The miners have mastered this challenge with a fantastic performance.

I would like to thank the whole team very deeply. Good luck!

Good luck!

Today, after 480 days of hard work, we can finally celebrate this special event together.

Days like today are among the happiest days in the professional life of a construction director.
And certainly, for all of you! Thank you! Grazie! Obrigado!

Finished! Finito!

Tunnel construction is not a child's birthday party!
