This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2025 Mazda CX-70 mid-size 5-passenger SUV. Mazda unveils the all-new CX-70!
The 2025 Mazda CX-70 is a mid-size SUV that shares the same platform with the CX-90 with the exact same length and width. This is a big 5-passenger SUV offering plenty of second row legroom and cargo space. Mazda focused on comfort level of the cabin, space, a sporty design and driving dynamics when building the CX-70.
Some of you were hoping the 2025 Mazda CX-70 would have similar measurements to the CX-60 sold in other markets, but for the North American market, Mazda decided to go with a large mid-size SUV to compete with other non-luxury models like the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport and Honda Passport. With the 2025 Mazda CX-70, Mazda says they are pressing further into the premium SUV segment which won’t be hard considering the upscale interior offered on this new model.
Mazda has confirmed there are two powertrain options, an inline-6 with a mild hybrid system and a plug-in hybrid. Exact details haven’t been announced but we feel the numbers should be similar to the CX-90 powertrains.
The photos are of the inline-6 2025 Mazda CX-70 gas model with a black exterior, a black grille, black trim, 21” wheels and a red Nappa leather interior inspired by the MX-5 100th anniversary edition. Although we don’t have trim details yet, we do know this red will not be offered on the top model. Mazda says the trims will be similar to the CX-90.
Just like the CX-90, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 gas model can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Mazda models have great safety results from IIHS and Mazda expects the CX-70 to be no different. Drive modes on the CX-70 include, towing, sport, normal and off-road.
Pricing has not been announced yet, but the CX-70 should go on sale sometime in the spring.
Spacious, comfortable and upscale, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 plug-in hybrid!
Although Mazda hasn’t released the exact numbers for the 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV, it should be the same as the CX-90. It has a 2.5L 4-yclinder with an 8-speed automatic transmission, a combined 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel. You can use regular fuel but the horsepower drops a little to 319 horsepower, the torque number stays the same. The CX-90 has 42 km/26 miles of range.
The black interior with navy blue inserts and taupe accents feels very premium. There is no piano black in this interior which is so nice to see. The centre console looks clean and modern with a traditional shifter and the dial to control the 10.25” display.
Mazda has added new assistance technologies, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 is the first vehicle with unresponsive driver support where the vehicle will automatically slow down and stop if they detect the driver is in trouble. Amazon Alexa has been added for hands-free commands like changing the temperature, the radio station or asking for driving directions.
