Struggling to understand how child support is calculated? No matter if you’re currently involved in a case where a court has determined child support to be necessary or if you’re just curious about how child support payments are calculated, today I’ll quickly explain the process of calculating those payments.

Here in California, we typically use a program called DissoMaster to determine child support; this program takes into account a few different factors.

The income of both parental parties
How much time each party spends with the children
Whether you have to pay health insurance
If you have to pay mandatory retirement
Whether you pay principle down on your mortgage

Once all the factors are entered into DissoMaster, the program produces a calculation for child support. This calculation will stand until there is another court order or until the child reaches the age of majority—this is typically 18 years old, but child support may last until the age of 19 if the child is still in high school.

Also, there are a few factors they do not take into account. To learn more, watch our latest video.
