Biography of Paramahansa Yogananda
We are honored to present the life story of one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the 20th century, Paramahansa Yogananda. He was born on January 5, 1893, in Gorakhpur, India. His childhood name was Mukunda Lal Ghosh.

Early Life
Paramahansa Yogananda was born in a devout Hindu family. His parents, Bhagabati Charan Ghosh and Gyana Prabha Ghosh, were disciples of Lahiri Mahasaya, a great yogi and disciple of Babaji. His parents taught him about the importance of spirituality and introduced him to the teachings of various saints and yogis.

Education
Paramahansa Yogananda was an exceptional student from a young age. He attended the Scottish Church College in Calcutta and graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1915. He then joined the University of Calcutta to pursue a degree in philosophy.

Meeting his Guru
In 1910, at the age of 17, Paramahansa Yogananda met his guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, who would later become a major influence in his life.
