Weekly Economic Outlook: Andrew Hilton's take on Ukraine, inflation, recession, market wobbles - and the problems of the crypto world.

Why you should watch: No end in sight to the crisis in Ukraine - and plenty more to worry about with Finland and Sweden about to end their neutrality, Russia cutting off gas supplies through the Yamal pipeline, and even India banning wheat exports to preserve supplies. Economically, inflationary pressures have eased a bit - but not for long. And Europe, in particular, is facing a major economic downturn. Meanwhile, markets have generally dodged the bullet yet again - but there's trouble at'mill when it comes to the crypto world. Crypto bros and broads alike have taken a beating following problems at TerraUSD - and these problems could easily spread to the rest of the crypto market. Considering that the US alone now has 16 million crypto coin owners, that is serious stuff. As for the future, watch China; its economy is shuddering to a halt - and could take the rest of the world with it.

Andrew Hilton is the former director (and co-founder) of the CSFI. Educated at Oxford, Wharton and Penn, he began his career at the World Bank in Washington, spent five years in Greece, four years in NY and much of the rest in London as an economic and financial journalist, consultant and jack-of-all-trades. (Now available for children's parties and Parliamentary investigations.) He was awarded an OBE for services to the City, just before the GFC.
