We are back in the shop making progress on the 4500 Class King of The Hammers build!
Using a 2 door jeep wrangler has alot of benefits, but at the same time can present major difficulties. We are going to have to make as much room as possible in the rear of the Jeep Wrangler JK.
Before we get too crazy cutting this jeep up, its important to make sure we aren't setting ourselves up for failure in the future. Removing too much body/tub material can weaken the entire structure, and even require more work on the back end to tie it all back together. We cut away unneeded areas of the flooring and wheelwheels, leaving us with a great starting point to build a custom rollcage.
The Clayton Offroad JK 3 piece crossmember also gets installed. This is a fantastic crossmember whether you are looking for a HD replacement, or looking to use it as a location for your lower control arms. We did step up to 5/8" for the link mounts, which bumps us up roughly 8klbs of tensile strength with a fine thread grade 8 bolt. Having the modular crossmember allows us to drop the transmission for repair or servicing without removing our links attaching to the axle which is extremely handy. The design of the crossmember is also a huge bonus in strength and reliability.
