Check out this site development project Dirtworks By Johnston completed for a new storage shed facility in Saxton, Pennsylvania. We turned just under one acre of farm field into a usable building lot. This lot was designed and built to fit three 30' x 150' storage shed buildings. This video shows us completing the excavation work, pouring the concrete, and building the first building.

This lot had roughly 15' of elevation change from the from the front to the back. Dirtworks By Johnston completed a classic cut and fill excavation to achieve the proper grade. Roughly 7' of fill was excavated out of the back of the lot and moved to the front where it was compacted with a vibratory roller. Dump trucks loaded by an excavator and a bulldozer were used to move and grade the fill.

After the rough grade elevations were reached we put a one foot thick layer of slate over the entire pad. The slate provided additional stability and created a usable parking area until the other buildings are constructed. The area around the first building was then top coated with 2A limestone for a smooth finish.

Dirtworks By Johnston completed the footer excavation and fine graded the building pad with 2B Limestone (aashto #57). We poured the concrete pad as well. This building has a concrete floating slab foundation with a 16" thickened edge that serves as the footers. Since all the concrete can be placed at one time it is also known as a monolithic slab.
