Ground cherries, otherwise known as physalis, are a unique fruit native to the Americas. They grow wild throughout South & North America yet few have had a chance to try them. So what are they? Some call them cape gooseberries but they aren't gooseberries at all. They are actually in the nightshade family, along with tomatoes & tomatillos. I've heard their flavor described as "pineapple-like", "tropical" and even "grape mixed with strawberries." I disagree! What will they taste like to you?
