After many overlanding trips, exploring in my Jeep Wrangler, I am aways making note of new upgrades that would make my rig more efficient and my gear more accessible. Last year, I installed a new Defender roof rack by Smittybuilt. This roof rack worked perfect and fit every need I wanted, however I realized accessing my gear took a little creative maneuvering, mostly climbing onto the hood and then to the roof of the Jeep. Because I have many new overlanding trips scheduled for this summer, I decided to go ahead and install a set of Smittybuilt Atlas door hinges to the side of the Jeep.

These door hinges fold down to create a serrated metal step, allowing me to stand on this step and access all my gear, without coming on top of the Jeep. The install was super simple, quick and the door hinges themselves were relatively inexpensive so this new upgrade will rank pretty high on the Road Rash suggested upgrades list and a must have for any overlander.
