If there was only one lens you could buy that would cover any need you could think of for videography and photography, what lens would it be?  Over time, I've found the answer to this question by lots of trial and error, and seeing what works best across a range of shoots and situations, from casual to professional.  Needless to say, the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 G Master lens has become my go-to lens for almost every kind of project imaginable, and is now that "one" lens for me.

In this lens review, I'll talk about the many specifications and features of the original 24-70mm GM, and also discuss the general importance and versatility of this focal range, and why I believe it's so crucial for many filmmakers and photographers.  I'll also discuss this lens' performance across a range of different areas, including: autofocus, sharpness, distortion, focus breathing, bokeh, and more.  I'll discuss the many wide ranges of gigs I've used this lens on during the time I've had it, and show numerous real-world examples of footage and shots that you could expect to get similar results from using this lens on cameras like my Sony a7S III, a7 IV, and the a7 III.  Last, I'll discuss some other excellent options in the 24-70mm space for Sony E-mount from Sigma, Tamron, and Sony themselves, and provide my final thoughts on the lens.

All in all, the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM is a staple lens within the Sony system that can cover most any videographer and photographer's needs for various shooting situations, do so incredibly well, and continues to provide impressive results years after its release.
