Ontario Premier Doug Ford presented his government's vision for what he hopes to accomplish with a new term, as well as reintroduced the 2022 budget during a throne speech.

The Ontario government is warning the province, like the rest of Canada and North America, “must be prepared for the possibility of a near-term economic slowdown.”

However, the government also promised low taxes and investments in infrastructure, promising that residents would not see tax hikes or spending cuts.

Lt.-Gov. Elizabeth Dowdeswell said during the Speech from the Throne that the government was “actively engaging” with health-system partners to identify ways to tackle the ongoing pressures, though did not specifically offer new solutions. The speech also said the government would engage in meaningful reform, noting health teams already in place and community paramedic programs.

The throne speech also noted that — as promised during the election — the government will boost disability support payments by five per cent and tie future increases to inflation, and offered a new pledge to give an additional $225 million in direct payments to parents “to help their kids catch up.”
