Over the holiday season, I took an epic solo trip in my Tesla Model Y. I was afforded the opportunity to go anywhere I wanted to go and ultimately decided to see Giga Austin for myself and then camp in the mountains of Colorado in the back of my Tesla Model Y.

This journey was about 3,250 miles over just a few days. Along the way, I decided it was a great opportunity to document what it is like living in the car, using camp mode.

The mattress I used on this trip was about a year of effort working to help develop this custom fit, portable option that was also comfortable to sleep on. A self inflating mattress is convenient because it allows you to inflate without needing a pump, but also is filled with foam, adding more comfort than a basic air mattress. Then, when you are not using it, it fits in the frunk and sub trunk (only sub trunk for Tesla Model 3). It is a perfect blend between comfort and portability.

Along the way, I was able to really disconnect and recharge by getting some alone time. Road tripping in a Tesla is so much fun, and the fact that the Tesla Model Y has so much room in the back makes it the ideal car to travel in. No need for hotels when you can sleep comfortably in the car.

Part 2 is the journey up to Colorado Springs from Austin. This 2 day trip encompassed over 1,100 miles and included some quick stops along the way. Efficiency was pretty bad due to extreme winds and elevation gain the whole way.

Finally, by setting the Model Y in camp mode, I was able to comfortably sleep the whole night in the back of my car without issue. Be sure to subscribe to catch 3 very soon!
