The Blue Ridge Mine was started in 1930 and ran until 1940. The shaft was 600’ long and 120’ underground, and they mined cinnabar for the mercury content. But more interesting was the Four Horsemen Hotel that was located on site. There are many mines in the area and the hotel was the general store, as well as brothel for the area. It is rumored that the hotel is haunted and many people have reported very strange happenings in the building.
Many of the mines in the area still have very in the area still have very intact equipment and facilities.
