Weekly Economic Outlook: Andrew Hilton's overview of the global economy - from the Spring Meetings to the Donbas

Why you should watch: The Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank begin on Monday in DC - against a background of war in Ukraine, supply chain disruption and higher inflation almost everywhere, as well as an active debate on just how close we are to a global recession. The issue is whether the reality of inflation should bow to the fear of recession. Plus, there's the Covid pandemic - or, at least, there's China's quixotic attempt to defeat it by arbitrary (and futile) lockdowns of major population centres. And then there's domestic politics... In France, Macron is a shoo-in, whatever the MSM media says, while, in the UK, BoJo must be thanking his lucky stars for Mr and Mrs Sunak's little tax problems.

Andrew Hilton stepped down as Director of the CSFI last month, after almost three decades in charge. He is a former World Bank economist, a former FT journalist, and a part-time economic consultant.
