I snuck into @KarateCombat with Oliver Enkamp! 👊💥

There are many styles in Karate Combat: Kyokushin is basically bare-knuckle Muay
Thai in a gi, while at the other end of the scale, American Sport Karate is a light-contact,
in-and-out fencing kind of style. In the interests of creating a level(ish) playing field, the rules of Karate Combat were designed to accommodate practitioners from all karate disciplines.

The Rules of Karate Combat:

- Three rounds of three minutes duration for regular fights.
- Five rounds of five rounds duration for title fights.
- Throws are allowed; takedowns (single, double leg) are not.
- Five seconds of ground ’n’ pound from a standing position is permitted. No ground-on-ground
work.
- The rules have some idiosyncrasies - for example, low kick to the calf is OK, but low kick to the
thigh is not. This is by design.

The rules are a living document which is updated frequently: the first season of KC did not allow
uppercuts, deeming them non-traditional, but these were then allowed after several people got
knocked out by uppercuts from guys who were clearly karate practitioners.

It is entirely possible - and probable - that the rules will undergo further evolution as Karate
Combat becomes further established and the talent pool becomes more experienced. Right now it is still only three years old and the idea of professional full-contact karate is a very
new thing in the karate world.

Over the years, Karate fighters have had to go into MMA or K-1 to make some money. Now
they can go to Karate Combat and stay in the art they love!
