In this video I show you how to get back on top of weedy ground.

In late winter I created these vegetable beds at the allotment by putting down layers of cardboard and then adding compost on top.

Fortunately two of the four beds weeds haven't been too big an issue. However two of the beds I can see becoming overrun with weeds in no time- unless I do something.

By covering the ground and blocking out light I can "sterilise" the soil over a few months. The black plastic heats the soil forcing seeds to germinate which then die because there is no light for them to grow.

What this means is come next season these beds will be very suitable for vegetable growing and I haven't had to endlessly weed them. Also by making a few small holes I can hopefully have some pumpkins out of them
