Hi Guys!

We love to go to pick your own farms and that means we get a truly fresh picked watermelon. Here are some tips to pick out a watermelon and what we look for:

Uniform Size
Look for the golden yellow to orange field spot. This is from the watermelon resting on the ground. An underripe melon will not have a field spot. White is not ripe.
If picking off the vine, the watermelon should come off easily with a twist.
Look at the stripes. There should be a contrast between the stripes and the melon.
Webbing, scars, if the pollinators wanted it, you'll enjoy it!
The stem area should be dried out and depressed. If it's protruding and green, the watermelon wasn't picked when ripe.
Tap the watermelon. Many people like to tap a watermelon as it will make a deep sound if it's ripe, and if it's overripe, it will sound hollow.
