Written by Adam Mitchell, a Scottish singer/songwriter who was living in Canada when he wrote this song which is set in a liquor store somewhere in Texas! It has been recorded by many well known singers in the bluegrass and country fields. Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings all did differently styled versions (along with some among others) in the country category. Folks like Claire Lynch, Darryl Scott, Herb Pederson with Tony Rice, and John Starling with the Seldom Scene did more folk and bluegrass oriented versions.

This version leans mostly on how John Starling presented the song which, to us, seems the most natural and authentic version (along with maybe Claire's take on it).

This features our bass man Todd (King of All Todds) Robertson on lead vocal.

We hope you enjoy it. If so, give it a like if you would and consider subscribing to this channel if you care to be notified when we begin regular postings of new material. We are just getting started but we are now setup to quickly and easily create lots of great new material, most of which we will be sharing right here on this YouTube channel. Thanks for watching and check back for more.

Here's a little more information about the Unsung Heroes Band.

The Unsung Heroes Band is an American roots and country music group based in the Seacoast area of Southern New Hampshire and Maine. We combine elements of old-school country, bluegrass, folk, blues, Americana and other roots genres, while trying to create a sound that is truly our own. We are a band that currently plays shows mostly in our local area, but with an intention to expand our geographical radius and musical goals to include festival and concert venues all around New England.

However, another major focus of our band is to use our beautiful new audio/video facility to record and film many new song videos just like this one and also to begin a regular live-streaming series in the next few months. Our facility is called Stone House Studio and we record in the amazing looking and sounding Blind Mule Barn, which was hand-built over many years by our drummer and singer Rob Kneeland and named after his next door neighbor Jack, who is indeed a big old blind mule who greets everyone who shows up at the barn. We have spent much of the last few years researching, purchasing and then dialing in the technology to create what we hope to be world class audio and video content... as well as just great music.

Along with our own original music, a large part of our repertoire (and musical mission) is meant to promote and keep alive some of the lesser known songs of singer/songwriters like Gordon Lightfoot, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Tom Waits, etc. along with material from somewhat lesser household named artists like Guy Clark, Jesse Winchester, Ian Tyson, Tom Rush, Richard Thompson, Jonathan Edwards, John Starling, and many others. However, several of our favorite songwriters (and unsung heroes) are our personal friends who live nearby and who bless the beautiful Seacoast region with an amazing amount of great music. We plan to add many songs from these artist to our repertoire and our video archives in the coming months and years, along with bringing many of them in to join us for a live stream and/or music video shoot.

The Unsung Heroes Band consists of:

Rob Kneeland: lead and harmony vocals, drums, acoustic guitar and mandolin
