There's 5 top reasons your Command Strip products are not sticking to a wall or other surface. Following these 5 tips will set you up for Command product success!

1. Using cheap knock-off adhesive products. Adhesive brands are not created equally. Many are good and some are real poopers. I’ve never had success with any of the generic Dollar Tree brands. Use quality brands like 3M, Scotch, or Gorilla.

2. Using the wrong adhesive weight for the object you’re hanging. Adhesive products come with a recommended max weight they can hold. If a product is rated for .5 lb and you’re hanging a three-pound object, it’s not going to stick for long. I made the mistake of creating a mixed bag of hooks & adhesive strips. I grabbed a strip rated for .5 lb and tried to hang a wreath from it. It was on the ground the next day. Be sure you label any packaging you store your adhesive products in if you remove them from their original packaging.

3. Not having the patience to let the adhesive bond set up before use. All quality adhesive products have application instructions with the required bonding time. If you follow this, you’ll have success. The cord organizer wraps I recommend have to bond for 12 hours before use. Everyone who has told me they don’t stick never lets the bond cure. Most 3M Command products have a one-hour bonding time.

4. Sticking the products to the wrong surface or freshly painted surfaces. For freshly painted surfaces, wait a min of seven days before application. Anything textured, like orange peel walls or brick, require specialty adhesive products, so be sure to use a compatible product. Most adhesive products require a smooth surface.

5. Not properly prepping your surface. Anything like dirt or grease (for example, cleaner residue or fingerprints) will prohibit a strong bond. You have to prep the surface with rubbing alcohol, nothing else. Rubbing alcohol is a solvent will remove residue and grease. Apple to a cotton pad and wipe the surface. Be sure the surface is completely dry before applying your adhesive product.

Avoid making these 5 mistakes and you’ll be set up for success. I hope these tips help!
