Between the working-from-home explosion last year and the absolutely insane demand for GPUs at the moment, pre-built systems have gotten more attention than we’ve ever seen before. Whether you’re just trying to get a GPU with minimal gouging, helping your friends and family pick a system, getting your first system, or just willing to pay extra for the service, there’s a lot of reasons to consider a pre-built PC. However, the companies that make these computers have a bag of tricks (not all malicious) to take your money, so today we’re going to go through a short list of the pitfalls you may encounter and how you can avoid them when buying the best gaming PC for your needs. We’ll talk about most of the major SIs and OEMs today, but this advice applies to all of them. Dell, HP, Cyberpower, iBUYPOWER, Origin PC, Maingear, and others are discussed.
