For Indians living in the '90s, a holiday meant visiting relatives that lived a few hours away. Over the last quarter-century though, things have changed. Tourism started to become more and more popular, first within India, and then outside of India. An industry was born, and has continued to grow and change ever since. This growth can be attributed to a number of different things, and Arun Raghu, co-founder of Travel.Earth, points two out in this video: the ever-increasing spending power of India's citizens, Bollywood's portrayal and promotion of attractive national and international locations. Indians began moving away from group tourism in favor of smaller, more specialized tours: sports tourism, health tourism, shopping tourism, etc. Today, Indians are travelling for self-enrichment more than ever, and this change is being led by the subcontinent's millennials.

Millennials are increasingly following a journey of content to commerce. They start their travels online, consuming content about specific places and experiences, and visualizing themselves being physically there. Then, as they narrow down the options and start to get more serious about travelling, they moving towards commerce: purchasing a plane ticket, booking a hotel room, arranging excursions, etc.

Arun Raghu believes that there is a huge opportunity for companies who are able to walk alongside the customer through the content to commerce journey. Right now, most companies focus on one aspect of the content to commerce journey, but very few are able to successfully and effectively manage the entire process. This is due in part to the fact that many Indian companies still employ an inward-out method of growing, where they decide on a product and then figure out how to sell it to customers, instead of an outward-in method where they look at what customers need and then build their products to meet those needs.
