In early February 1861, representatives from six Southern states gathered in Montgomery, Ala., to draft and adopt a provisional Confederate constitution. Meanwhile, Local leaders across the South rallied their communities and raised militia companies to defend the emerging republic. Here's the story of one volunteer, David Wardlaw Ramsey, and the “Wilcox True Blues" of Alabama's Wilcox County.
