This fall Generation New River Gorge partnered with New River Conservancy, Piney Creek Watershed Association, National Park Service and the Canyon Rim Rotary Club to host a New River Cleanup. With the help of 18 volunteers, 43 bags of trash and 25 tires were recovered and removed along a six miles stretch of the New.
Pollution in bodies of water, such as human waste, damage river ecosystems, causing physical and chemical changes that harm local wildlife, such as the charismatic river otter, the endangered candy darter, and freshwater mussels. River cleanups are a crucial part in protecting the waters, woodlands and wildlife of the New River Watershed.
