Welcome to this step-by-step guide on replacing a water heater supply line. Today, I'll show you how to safely and efficiently replace the supply line for your water heater. Let's get started.
Here are the tools you'll need for this project:
Adjustable wrench
Possibly Teflon tape
New water heater supply line

Step 1: Shut off the water supply. Locate the main water shutoff valve or the water heater incoming water valve and turn it clockwise to shut off the water flow to the water heater.

Step 2: Shut off power to the water heater.

Step 3: Drain Water Heater (it should probably be done anyway as part of normal maintenance.

Step 4: Disconnect the old supply line. Using an adjustable wrench, loosen the nuts connecting the supply line to the water heater and the water supply pipe. Remove the old supply line and set it aside.

Step 5: Prepare the new supply line. Ensure the new supply line is the correct length and type for your water heater.

Step 6: Since there is a gasket there is no immediate need to apply Teflon tape or pipe thread sealant, however, you may find you may have to use it if you get drips after connecting and testing. If used, wrap Teflon tape clockwise around the threaded ends of the supply line. This will create a watertight seal when connecting the line.

Step 7: Connect the new supply line. Attach one end of the supply line to the water heater and the other end to the water supply pipe. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nuts securely, ensuring a proper connection.

Step 8: Turn on the water supply and power. Slowly turn the main water shutoff valve counterclockwise to restore the water flow to the water heater and flip breaker back on.

Step 9: Inspect for leaks. Carefully check all the connections for any signs of water leakage. If you notice any leaks, tighten the nuts further or reapply Teflon tape.
And there you have it! You've successfully replaced your water heater supply line. Enjoy a reliable and efficient water supply.
