On March 31, 2023, McCormick's Creek State Park was in the path of an EF-3 tornado.

Approximately 282 acres of the 1,961-acre park were forever altered. The tornado was approximately 400 yards wide at its widest, or about the width of 4 football fields.

The tornado caused severe damage to the campground and many trails throughout the park, which remain closed.

The Canyon Inn, most cabins, the saddle barn, the fire tower and nature center were not impacted and are open along with some trails.

While the park is forever changed by the impacts of this storm, nature is resilient and so are we as humans.

Clean up and planning for reconstruction of the campground are actively underway, but the process is a long one and campsites will remain closed indefinitely. We will embrace what the future brings when guests can once again safely enjoy all that Indiana's oldest state park offers.
