In this video we will show you how we teach Leash Pressure. Leash pressure training is a critical component of dog obedience training. It teaches dogs to respond appropriately to the tension on the leash, allowing for more controlled and pleasant walks. This is accomplished through positive reinforcement techniques, such as rewarding the dog for yielding to the leash and using consistent commands. By teaching your dog to yield to the leash, you are promoting good leash manners and preventing any potential issues that may arise from a dog that pulls or fights against the leash. This can include behaviors such as leash aggression, lunging, and barking. Additionally, leash pressure training can help to improve communication and strengthen the bond between owner and dog. Overall, leash pressure training is a crucial part of responsible dog ownership and helps to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all parties involved.

Tip: Practice this in a distraction free environment (inside). You are not pulling your dog! You are applying pressure in a direction. Don't do engagement before practicing leash pressure. Use a barrier (have your dog between yourself and a wall). Use food rewards only.

Step 1: Have the dog standing still. Tuck your leash hand behind your leg and apply leash pressure in a direction. Use a consistent pressure.

Step 2: When the dog takes a step towards the direction you are pulling, the pressure is released. Now mark with “Yes” and reward them with your other hand.

Caution... This should only take 1-3 days for your dog to understand. Make sure You don't have a treat in the hand you are using to pull the leash, otherwise your dog may just be going after the treat.
