Today I serviced both axles on my girlfriend’s 2018 Silverado 1500. Her rig is nearing 60k miles and definitely needed this to be addressed. I also took the opportunity to upgrade her rear differential cover with something a little more functional than the standard OEM cover. The new AFE cast aluminum cover looks good and comes with a top port, side bleed port, a glass bolt head for monitoring the fluid level, and the drain port down at the bottom.

Not wanting to chance reusing the old gasket, I bought a fresh one. Little bit of thread locker on the mounting bolts and some teflon for the access port bolts and it was ready for gear oil. I filled the rear with Royal Purple 75w90 and it took exactly 3 quarts with the new cover. The front axle was a breeze compared to rear. I managed to get in 1.6 quarts of the same gear oil. She should be good for a long while now.🤠👍🏼
