RCEA Conference on Recent Developments in Economics, Econometrics, and Finance

The Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis (RCEA), with the support of the Department of Economics of the University of Cyprus, the Tax Administration Research Centre (TARC), and the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research - IOBE have hosted a three-day online conference on 4-6 March 2022.

The revenue of the conference was directed to finance part of the medical treatment for our friend Miltiadis (Miltos) Makris, a Professor of Economics at the University of Essex, UK.

Miltos is specializing in microeconomic theory and public economics. His numerous contributions include publications in the Journal of Political Economy, the International Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of International Economics, AEJ: Macroeconomics, Games and Economic Behavior, and the Journal of Public Economics.

Last July, Miltos found that he has a malignant and very aggressive brain tumor. He went through two surgeries and now needs a procedure commonly referred to as “Optune” which, unfortunately, is not covered by regular insurance and NHS in the UK. Optune is an innovative, FDA-approved, treatment for glioblastoma (GBM) that works by creating Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields), which are electric fields that disrupt cancer cell division (see https://www.optune.com for details about the US version of the info site).

A separate fundraiser has been organized by Alessandro Pavan, one of our plenary speakers, for the same cause: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-milto...
