In the last video I looked at how we divide the continents.  We looked at how we could have anywhere from 4 to 7 continents!  But that left me with a question, how were the continents named?

In this video we start with how Africa was named and the way that Roman naming traditions (specifically the cognomen) played into the name of Africa.

Antarctica was named as the antithesis of the Arctic, which we discussed in our last video!

Next we look at how Asia went from being the name of specific areas to an entire continent.

We then look at how Australia became the name of a country and a continent.  Then we look at the name Oceania and why it is often used today.

North and South America come in a pair and were named after the same Italian explorer.

And finally we end with Europe!  The only continent that is responsible for naming any of the continents!

I hope you enjoy it!
