The hardest part of beekeeping is handling the death of your beehive, but when a hive perishes, the beekeeper has to put aside their emotions and figure out the cause of death before the evidence is lost (or eaten).

Why would you want to examine a bunch of dead bees?

The two main reasons being that you want to learn from your mistakes so that you can increase your hive survival rate next year and to make sure it is safe to reuse the honeycomb in the spring.
