Ready to up the status of your Viking Age Tunics and Dresses? Then check out this detailed tutorial which will show you how to add contrasting cuffs as you construct your garments. Learn to prepare them and attach them perfectly every time, with step by step instructions and handy hints and tips that apply to a wide variety of viking age sewing projects.

Whether your persona is Scandinavian, or Anglo-Saxon (Old English) or something in between, this style of cuff trim is appropriate. The overall method itself is not authentic, however we do have evidence of extra pieces added at the cuffs, and iconographic sources also appear to show garments decorated in this way. We can't be certain what was being depicted of course, but this is my interpretation, and it's a solid guess based on plenty of juicy research!

This is a great way to add detail to your garments and show off small amounts of richer fabric that increase the status of your character's clothing. It is particularly helpful for reenactors who will be on the battlefield, who need to show their high status in their clothing but don't want to risk their precious tablet weave or silk trims being damaged or covered in chainmail oil!
This is another long video, but I promise it's worth it for all the hints and tips you will get along the way.
