An unfortunate traffic jam on the way home from the solar eclipse turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I spent the night in the Syracuse area, then ventured out to the New York State Fairgrounds the next morning.
The Central New York Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society (https://cnynrhs.org/web/) maintains the Historic Train Display at the fairgrounds. On display are two locomotives, three coaches, two combine cars, and two cabooses.
The star of the show is Amtrak GG1 #926, formerly Pennsylvania Railroad #4933. I have a goal of seeing every surviving GG1, and this road trip gave me the chance to check this one off my list.
Join me as I check out that GG1 and all of the other restored and preserved units on display. I even caught two freight trains on the CSX mainline while I was there! I'll show a preview of one in this video, but the full clips of both will be in my upcoming April Railfanning Roundup video.
