The Doomer meme is a version of the "Feels Guy" (also known as the “Wojak” character). He's often drawn as a depressed young man in his early 20s. The Doomer meme resonates with many people in our times. Why? This video explores this question.

The "Doomer" meme expresses a sense of utter hopelessness that a certain sort of person often feels with respect to the state of the world. They often feel unfulfilled in their personal lives. They likely have few or no intimate relationships. They work unsatisfying jobs. They reject most conventional paths for trying to make their lives better. Many people try to dismiss those who identify with the “Doomer worldview” as overly dramatic, but the meme has nevertheless resonated with many people. Why? I believe there are at least two societal trends behind the rise of the Doomer, and I explore each of them in this video:

The decline of traditional religious institutions, and
The rise of philosophical materialism (which I believe is a very disempowering worldview).
