Former NBA player Enes Kanters life is in danger. Turkish authorities are offering 10 million Turkish lira, which is equivalent to roughly $500,000 US or $750,000 AUD, for the capture of Enes. That's a $500,000 bounty. The reason for this, is back in 2013, Enes Kanter publicly criticized Turkeys president, whose name I know I'm gonna butcher, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Saying things like "He's the Hitler of our century" and often referring to him as a dictator. In 2016, Turkey witnessed it's bloodiest and most violent coup in it's history after trying to get rid of the current president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The coup failed in the end, but not without a cost, 250+ people died opposing the coup. This coup was led by a man named Gülen. Enes publicly supported Gülen, which was opposing the president and shortly after Enes Kanters family disowned him. In November 2021, Enes Kanter recieved his US citizenship and changed his name to Enes Freedom to mark the event. I will still call him Enes Kanter though because most NBA fans know him by that. But don't be worried for Enes as he stated that after the bounty, he's been put under 24 hour protection and is in contact with the FBI and he's also moved to Washington D.C.
