This 63 minute video was shot during the final Save the Theatres Rally on March 22, 1982 when almost 200 protesters, led by Joe Papp, peacefully trespassed on the empty lot next to the Morosco Theatre on West 45th Street. Each person was courteously loaded into a police van and taken to the Midtown North police station where they received a pink summons to appear later in court. Among the stars present were Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere, Colleen Dewhurst, Dana Delaney, Gary Sandy, Tammy Grimes, Treat Williams, and many more. (Christopher Reeve was active in the Rally but was unable to participate in the trespass because of his Superman contract with Warner Bros.)
This digital copy of the 38-year-old first generation Beta video tape has some problems with tracking, but I have included everything (including several minutes in a poorly lit police station) to preserve this historical event in its entirety. Incidentally, all charges were later dropped against the trespassers.
